The Bono East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party Ibrahim Baba Bukari has called for the continuation of the existing Bawumia–Napo ticket into the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on Lawson TV/Radio’s Se Sen programme with Kwame Tanko on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Chairman Bukari said there is growing support within the party for Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh to remain as running mate to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
He noted that the current pairing between Dr Bawumia and Dr Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as “Napo,” has become widely recognised and accepted among party members, especially in the Bono East Region.
According to him, many grassroots supporters are making an “organic and genuine” call for the ticket to be maintained, arguing that it strengthens the party’s chances going into 2028.
“A lot of party people in Bono East are calling for the Bawumia–Napo ticket to be maintained for the 2028 elections,” he said.
Chairman Bukari added that he personally aligns with that view, stressing that continuity would make the party’s campaign easier and more effective.
He described the pairing as a “household name” within the NPP, saying it already enjoys significant recognition among supporters.
“If the Bawumia–Napo ticket is maintained, it will make the work easier for us in 2028,” he stated.
He further expressed confidence that the partnership remains strong and widely accepted, adding that any change would be surprising given its popularity.
Chairman Bukari also urged party members to remain united and rally behind the NPP as it prepares for the next election.
He encouraged Ghanaians to pray for Dr Bawumia and Dr Opoku Prempeh, adding that an NPP return to power would bring improved governance and stronger support for farmers, particularly cocoa farmers.
According to him, the party is committed to implementing practical measures to improve agriculture and the economy if voted back into office in 2028.
