Mahama Nominates Kenneth Gilbert Adjei as Defence Minister to Replace Late Omane Boamah in Cabinet Reshuffle

President John Dramani Mahama has reassigned Kenneth Gilbert Adjei from the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to the Ministry of Defence as part of a fresh cabinet reshuffle.
The move comes exactly one year after the death of former Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, who died in a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025.
In line with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, President Mahama has submitted the nominations to Parliament through the Speaker for prior approval.
Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, who previously served as Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, is expected to take charge of the Defence Ministry following parliamentary approval.
The reshuffle also sees Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga nominated to head the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, while Builsa North MP James Agalga has been named the new Majority Leader.
Additionally, Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, has been nominated as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, with Ahmed Ibrahim reassigned to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
The nominees will appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting before their nominations are presented to the House for approval.
