Court of Appeal Clears Former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe of All Charges
Appeal court overturns earlier conviction, citing failure by prosecution to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt

- Court overturns conviction
- Sedina Tamakloe acquitted
- 10-year sentence quashed
The Court of Appeal has acquitted and discharged former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, overturning her earlier conviction and 10-year prison sentence.
The appellate court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove its case against her beyond reasonable doubt and set aside the judgment of the High Court that convicted her on multiple charges, including causing financial loss to the state and other related offences.
In a 94-page judgment, the Court of Appeal held that the trial judge failed to properly apply the principle that an accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The court also criticised aspects of the prosecution’s handling of the case.
The former MASLOC boss had been convicted by the High Court and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment after being found guilty on several financial crime-related charges. She later appealed the decision, arguing that the prosecution did not establish the offences against her with sufficient evidence.
The Court of Appeal’s decision means the previous conviction and sentence have been quashed, effectively clearing Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu of the charges for which she was convicted.
Background:
Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu served as MASLOC CEO from 2013 to 2017. She was tried on several counts connected to alleged financial crimes during her tenure, with the case attracting significant public attention.
