NPP Mion Constituency Chairman Resigns After Recent Poll Victory

The Mion Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sulaiman Abubakar, has resigned from his position with immediate effect.
In a letter dated August 8, 2026, and addressed to the NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Mr. Abubakar formally notified the party of his decision to step down as constituency chairman.
“My resignation is personal,” he stated, without providing further details about the reason for his decision.
Mr. Abubakar expressed gratitude to the party’s Council of Elders, patrons, polling station and electoral area executives, as well as members and supporters within the constituency, for their confidence and support during his tenure.
Despite stepping down from the constituency leadership, he stressed that he remained a committed member of the NPP and would continue to support the party’s efforts to regain political power in the 2028 elections.
“I remain an ardent and good-standing member of the party and will continue to discharge my role as a member to ensure we recapture power in 2028,” he said.
He also wished the constituency leadership well and indicated that he would maintain contact with the party.
Mr. Abubakar’s resignation comes less than two weeks after he was declared the winner of the NPP’s constituency elections in Mion.
The letter did not disclose the specific circumstances behind his decision to resign.
