The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Chieftaincy, Culture and Religious Affairs, and Member of Parliament for Offinso North, Dr Fred Kyei Asamoah, has called on government to prioritise Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), describing it as a key solution to Ghana’s economic and unemployment challenges.
He explained that countries such as Germany have achieved significant industrial and economic progress due to strong investment in TVET, particularly after the Second World War, when the nation focused on equipping citizens with practical skills to produce goods and services independently.

According to him, Germany continues to train about 1.2 million young people annually through technical and vocational programmes, a strategy he said has contributed to sustained development and job creation. He added that Ghana could adopt a similar model by training at least 200,000 young people each year.
Dr Asamoah urged government to collaborate with private sector companies to expand opportunities for TVET graduates, allowing them to gain practical experience and apply their skills in real work environments. He noted that such partnerships would help bridge the gap between training and employment while creating sustainable jobs for young people.
He made these remarks during an interview with the media in Parliament, stressing that a strong TVET system would play a crucial role in driving Ghana’s industrialisation and economic transformation.
