Obuasi SecTech Teachers Arrested Over Alleged Role in Headmaster’s Assault

Police in Obuasi have arrested two teachers of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SecTech) in connection with the alleged assault of the school’s headmaster, Abdulai Zakaria.
The police say preliminary investigations suggest that the two teachers may have encouraged students to attack the headmaster during unrest at the school.
The incident occurred on August 5, 2026, amid tensions on the school campus.
Some students had accused the headmaster of involvement in alleged ritual activities and made other allegations concerning inappropriate relationships with female students. The claims remain subject to police investigations.
Teachers linked to alleged assault
Obuasi District Police Commander, Superintendent Mahama Iddrisu, said three teachers were initially arrested for questioning after the headmaster reported the incident to the police.
According to him, investigators subsequently focused on two of the teachers based on statements obtained from the suspects and the headmaster.
He said the headmaster sustained injuries during the attack and was admitted to hospital. After his discharge, he reported the matter to the police and identified individuals he believed were involved.
Superintendent Iddrisu said the two teachers were expected to be taken before the court as police sought a remand order to enable investigators to continue their work.
He explained that the investigation was still ongoing and that the suspects had questions to answer based on the information gathered so far.
Police investigate foetus found on campus
Police are also investigating the discovery and exhumation of a male foetus on the school’s compound.
Superintendent Iddrisu said the foetus was reportedly found buried at a location on the school grounds on August 5 and was later exhumed by students.
The remains have since been transferred to the Obuasi Government Hospital morgue, where they are being preserved pending further examination.
Police are considering an autopsy and, if necessary, DNA testing to establish the circumstances surrounding the burial and determine who may have been responsible.
Superintendent Iddrisu said students had linked the burial to the headmaster without providing evidence, eyewitness testimony or video footage to support the allegation.
He said the suspicion surrounding the incident contributed to tensions that culminated in the attack on the headmaster.
Headmaster discharged
The headmaster sustained machete-related injuries during the incident and was subsequently admitted to hospital.
He has since been discharged and is recovering.
Police say investigations into both the alleged assault and the discovery of the foetus are continuing.
