The Minority in Parliament has called for investigations into the Damang gold mining contract and Ghana’s hosting of the 24th African Senior Athletics Championship.
Addressing Parliament, the Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Madam Patricia Appiagyei, urged Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin to, as a matter of urgency, establish a committee to investigate the Damang mining agreement awarded to Engineers and Planners.

According to her, concerns have been raised over possible corruption and conflict of interest in the awarding of the contract, particularly because the company is reportedly linked to the brother of the President.
Madam Appiagyei stated that the circumstances surrounding the deal require thorough scrutiny to ensure transparency and accountability.
The Minority also called for a separate investigation into the organization of the 24th African Senior Athletics Championship hosted in Accra.
She described the event as poorly organized and embarrassing for the country, alleging that participants faced challenges with accommodation and feeding despite Ghana securing hosting rights more than two years ago.
The Asokwa MP questioned why adequate preparations were not made ahead of the championship and called for officials responsible for the event to be held accountable.
Madam Appiagyei specifically urged that the organizers of the tournament, as well as the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mr Kofi Adams, be investigated over the challenges that marred the competition.
According to the Minority, the situation damaged Ghana’s image on the international stage and raised concerns about the management of resources allocated for the event.
