Two candidates sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have lost their lives following a road accident in the Upper West Region.

The victims, identified as Taufii Ibrahim and Abdul Khalid, were students of Charia Roman Catholic Junior High School.

Reports indicate that the two were travelling on a motorcycle from Charia to Wa, where they were scheduled to write their exams, when the crash occurred.

According to reports, the students were heading to stay in Wa for the duration of the examinations due to the absence of a centre in their community. Motorcycles, commonly known as “okada,” are widely used for transportation in the area.

Both students were rushed to a nearby health facility after the accident. Taufii Ibrahim was pronounced dead on arrival, while Abdul Khalid later passed away on Monday afternoon.

The incident comes as more than 620,000 candidates across the country begin this year’s BECE, which started on Monday, May 4.
