A grieving mother, Mrs Ansong, has shared a heartbreaking account of how her daughter, Opoku Abigail, died after going into labour at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital, amid allegations of delayed medical intervention.

Speaking in an emotional interview, Mrs Ansong said her daughter repeatedly begged for an emergency caesarean section as her condition deteriorated.

“Around 3 p.m., I went to see my daughter. She told me she was suffering and asked me to tell the nurses and doctors to perform a CS because she could not bear the pain anymore,” she said.

She alleged that her pleas for urgent help from medical staff were ignored.

“When I told the nurse, she said she was coming, but she never returned. When I went back again, she shouted at me to go out and leave her,” she recounted.

According to her, she was forced to stay outside the ward, praying helplessly as her daughter’s condition worsened.

“I went outside and was praying for my daughter,” she said.

Mrs Ansong said she was later called back into the ward and was devastated by what she saw.

“I saw my daughter in the labour ward, very weak, vomiting blood and soiling herself. She was lying on the floor, and nurses were around her,” she said through tears.

She further alleged that when she asked how her daughter could be saved, she was told to go and buy malt.

“I asked the nurses what they were doing to save her, and they told me to go and buy malt. I went and bought it,” she said.

She claimed that the situation worsened after she returned.

“When I came back, she was struggling to breathe and dying in front of me. They then told me to go and buy medication and asked me to leave again,” she alleged.

“I was on my way back when I saw my daughter dying in front of me, and nobody could help her,” she cried.

The tragic incident has sparked widespread public concern, with allegations that Abigail may have been denied timely surgical intervention.

In response, the Ghana Health Service has set up a committee to investigate the reported maternal death at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital, assuring the public of a full and transparent probe.
