The government has raised the daily feeding grant for students in public special schools from GH¢8 to GH¢15, aiming to better meet the nutritional and health needs of learners with disabilities.

President John Dramani Mahama announced the increment on Friday, February 27, during his second State of the Nation Address. He stated that the government had increased the allocation from eight cedis to 15 cedis per day for each student in public special schools.

According to the President, the adjustment is part of a wider effort to strengthen support for learners with special needs. He explained that the amended GETFund Act now provides a dedicated and sustainable funding framework to implement free education for learners with special needs starting from the 2026 academic year.

The increase in the feeding grant, alongside the new funding structure, is intended to enhance equity, improve nutrition, and ensure consistent support for students with disabilities.
