Story Highlights
  • Prosecution closes case in Skytrain trial involving Solomon Asamoah and Christopher Ameyaw-Ekumfi over alleged $2m payment.
  • Witnesses told the court the GIIF Board did not approve the Skytrain project.
  • Defence to file no-case submission; court grants three weeks.

The Attorney-General has closed its case in the ongoing Skytrain trial involving two former officials of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) — Solomon Asamoah and Christopher Ameyaw-Ekumfi — who are standing trial over allegations that they caused financial loss to the state through the disbursement of $2 million for the Skytrain project without board approval.

With the prosecution concluding its evidence, the state has finished presenting witnesses in support of the charges brought against the accused persons.

Three witnesses were called during the trial: Yaw Odame-Darkwa, Kofi Boakye, and Francis Aboagye. All three told the court, in different ways, that the GIIF Board did not approve the Skytrain project, despite the alleged authorization of the $2 million payment.

Following the close of the prosecution’s case, lawyers for the accused persons indicated their intention to file a “submission of no case,” arguing that the evidence presented is insufficient to sustain the charges and that the trial should therefore be terminated.

Presiding judge, Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, has granted the defence three weeks to file the application.
