Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called on Ghanaians to put an end to discrimination against children with special needs and promote their full inclusion in society.
She emphasized that children with special needs have distinct talents and capabilities that should be developed and celebrated rather than ignored. According to her, embracing diversity and fostering acceptance are essential to national development.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang made these remarks on Friday, February 20, when she joined pupils of New Horizon Special School to celebrate their 2026 Fun Day and Games.
“It’s all about recognising the differences we have. And it’s about looking at all the differences and bringing them together, almost like cloth weavers. They bring all the strands together, and it is when they are all together that the pattern comes out,” she stated.
The Vice President applauded the school’s management, parents, and caregivers for their unwavering commitment to the children’s growth and well-being. She also commended the institution for incorporating sports and physical activities into its programs to enhance the pupils’ health and overall development.
To support the school, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang donated 50 boxes of soap and several boxes of sanitary pads as part of the event.
