Story Highlights
  • NDC rejects NPP’s claim of GH₵44bn losses at BoG.
  • Party says BoG spending is a strategic economic intervention.
  • Government claims inflation and cedi stability are improving.

The governing National Democratic Congress has defended the Bank of Ghana, dismissing claims by the opposition New Patriotic Party that the institution has recorded GH₵44 billion in financial losses.

According to the NDC, the allegations are misleading and form part of efforts to undermine public confidence in Ghana’s ongoing economic recovery.

Speaking at the relaunch of the party’s “Setting the Records Straight” initiative, Deputy National Communications Officer Godwin Ako Gunn said the figures being circulated by the opposition are inaccurate and taken out of context.

He explained that the Bank of Ghana’s reported GH₵15.6 billion financial commitments should not be interpreted as losses, but rather as strategic interventions aimed at stabilising the economy.

He further argued that the central bank’s actions have contributed to improving macroeconomic stability, including easing inflationary pressures and supporting the strengthening of the Ghana cedi.

According to him, recent economic indicators suggest a reduction in inflation and a gradual easing of cost-of-living pressures, which he attributed in part to the Bank’s policy interventions.

The NDC maintained that the Bank of Ghana’s measures are necessary steps to support economic recovery rather than evidence of financial mismanagement.
