Stakeholders Call for School Feeding Grant Hike to GH¢5 Amid Rising Food Costs
GSFP officials urge government to boost funding to ensure nutritious meals for pupils.

- GSFP Greater Accra Coordinator calls for increase of feeding grant from GH¢2 to GH¢5.
- Rising food costs and resource challenges for caterer training cited as main reasons.
- Minister Agnes Naa Momo Lartey supports potential increase if economic conditions improve.
The Greater Accra Regional Coordinator for the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), Jessica Patience Braimah, has urged the government to raise the school feeding allocation from the current GH¢2 to GH¢5 per pupil, citing concerns over the adequacy of the current grant amid rising food prices.
Speaking to journalists during a GSFP training programme for caterers, Ms. Braimah emphasized the importance of increasing the grant to enable the provision of more nutritious meals for children.
“We have begun training caterers on healthier cooking methods, but resource constraints make it difficult to implement these programs fully. Increasing the grant to GH¢5 would help address these challenges,” she stated.
The call for an upward review aligns with comments by the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, who on September 4 indicated that the school feeding allowance for basic school pupils could be increased to GH¢5 per child if the economy continues to improve.
