Chelsea have named Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior as their new head coach, signing the 41-year-old Englishman on a five-and-a-half-year contract with an option for an additional season. He succeeds Enzo Maresca, who departed on New Year’s Day.
Rosenior will watch Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday before leading his first training session on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie with Charlton Athletic.
“I am extremely humbled and honoured to be appointed head coach of Chelsea Football Club,” Rosenior said. “I will give everything to bring the success this club deserves.”
Interim Chelsea coach Calum McFarlane commented on Rosenior’s arrival: “I wouldn’t be giving him advice because he is a really accomplished coach. I am here to support him, but I won’t be giving advice.”
Rosenior, speaking at his final Strasbourg press conference, confirmed he had verbally agreed to take over at Chelsea, describing it as an opportunity he could not refuse: “I cannot turn down this opportunity to join an incredible club and squad who are Club World Cup champions.”
Part of the BlueCo multi-club ownership group, which also owns Chelsea, Rosenior will bring Strasbourg staff Kalifa Cisse, Justin Walker, and Ben Warner to Stamford Bridge.
