Defence Ministry Denies Claims of Military Land Allocation to Ibrahim Mahama
Government clarifies housing project at Burma Camp, rejects claims of land transfer
- Ernest Brogya Genfi denies reports of land allocation to Ibrahim Mahama
- GH¢120 million donation supports military housing project at Burma Camp
- Initiative aimed at improving accommodation for personnel, not private development
The Deputy Minister of Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has dismissed reports alleging that military lands have been handed over to businessman Ibrahim Mahama for private development, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on April 29, Mr Genfi clarified that no such allocation has been made by the Ghana Armed Forces. Instead, he explained that the military has initiated a self-help housing project aimed at replacing outdated and deteriorating colonial-era buildings within Burma Camp.
According to him, the project is focused on improving accommodation and overall welfare for military personnel.
Housing project backed by private support
Mr Genfi noted that Ibrahim Mahama, Chief Executive Officer of Dzata Group Holding Limited, has contributed GH¢120 million to support the initiative. The funds are expected to finance the construction of 10 residential blocks, each comprising 16 housing units.
He stressed that this contribution is a form of support for the military’s welfare programme and does not involve any transfer or allocation of military land.
Fundraising event draws corporate support
The housing initiative was further supported during a fundraising luncheon held at the Ghana Military Academy. The event, chaired by Sam Jonah, attracted donations and pledges from corporate organisations and partners of the Armed Forces.
Focus on welfare, not land allocation
The Defence Ministry reiterated that the project is strictly aimed at improving living conditions for service personnel and should not be misconstrued as a private land deal.
Officials emphasised that the initiative reflects a broader effort to modernise military accommodation and support the welfare of those serving in the country’s defence.
