Congo Ebola Cases Rise to 782, Two New Health Zones Affected

The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo has risen to 782, following 72 new infections recorded within 24 hours, government data released on Sunday has shown.

The latest situation report indicates that the outbreak, the country’s 17th, has so far resulted in 181 deaths.

Health authorities say the outbreak remains concentrated in three eastern provinces: Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu.

However, new cases have now been confirmed for the first time in the Nia-Nia health zone in Ituri and the Mabalako health zone in North Kivu, signalling a widening spread within affected regions.

According to the data, cases have now been recorded in 20 of Ituri’s 36 health zones, 10 of North Kivu’s 34 health zones, and one health zone in South Kivu.
