The flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party, Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) to position themselves for future leadership opportunities ahead of the 2028 general election.

Speaking at the opening of a three-day leadership training programme in Accra under the 2026 Leadership Pipeline Initiative, Dr Bawumia said the party was committed to investing in young people because the future of Ghanaian politics would largely be shaped by the youth.

According to him, the training programme was designed to equip TESCON members with the skills and experience needed to take up important leadership positions within the party and the country.

“We want the youth to take key leadership positions, but they must first be prepared for those responsibilities,” he stated.

Youth to Shape 2028 Election

Dr Bawumia stressed that the 2028 election, like the 2024 polls, would be heavily influenced by young voters, making it important for the NPP to strengthen its engagement with students and young people nationwide.

He revealed that the party intended to increase its activities on tertiary campuses and deepen interactions with TESCON members in the years leading up to the election.

“You will see me on many campuses this year, next year, and in 2028 as we take our ideas and policies directly to the people,” he said.

Confidence in 2028 Victory

Amid enthusiastic chants from TESCON members, Dr Bawumia expressed optimism about the NPP’s chances in the next general election.

He, however, warned supporters against complacency, insisting that victory would only come through hard work, commitment, and early preparation.

“We are starting the work early because success will require effort and dedication,” he noted.

Call for Unity and Resilience

Dr Bawumia also encouraged TESCON members to remain united and determined despite political challenges.

He urged the students to fully participate in the leadership training programme and develop the skills necessary for future roles in governance and national development.
