The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ghana)) has announced the successful rescue and repatriation of 28 Ghanaian nationals from a human trafficking operation in Côte d’Ivoire (Côte d’Ivoire).

According to a statement issued on Sunday, May 10, the victims—mostly young people—were rescued during a joint cross-border operation involving Ghanaian embassy officials in Abidjan and security agencies from both countries.

The Ministry described the trafficking operation as a sophisticated network that preyed on vulnerable individuals through deceptive schemes.

The rescued victims have since returned safely to Ghana and are currently assisting authorities with ongoing investigations into the trafficking syndicate.

Government officials praised the collaboration between Ghanaian and Ivorian security agencies, highlighting the importance of intelligence sharing and regional cooperation in combating human trafficking.

The Ministry also cautioned Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to be vigilant against fraudulent travel and employment offers often used by traffickers to lure victims abroad.

Citizens were advised to verify all overseas job and travel opportunities through official institutions such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations, and Ghana’s diplomatic missions.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens abroad and intensifying efforts to dismantle trafficking networks while ensuring those behind such crimes are brought to justice.
