Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has criticised Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng for describing the NPP as a “fake party,” calling the comments deeply insulting.

Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, January 27, Blay noted that such remarks are especially reckless coming from someone who still identifies as a member of the party.

He attributed the situation to the openness of democratic systems, which allow individuals to freely express opinions even when those opinions are harmful to their own organisations.

“Anybody who talks like that is talking irresponsibly, especially when he claims to be a member of the party. It is reckless when you talk like that… When you say you are going by democracy, you allow people to say what they want, and then you defend them with your life, even when they are talking foolishly, you take it like that,” Blay said.

The remarks came after Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, in an interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV, described the NPP as a “fake party” and expressed that he no longer recognised its current leadership.

Despite the criticism, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng has maintained his membership in the party but has also refused to appear before the NPP’s National Executive or Disciplinary Committees, even as the party considers steps that could lead to his expulsion.
