‘NDC Has Failed Miners’ – Chairman Solomon Jabari
NDC Island–City Branch Chairman praises economic management but calls for better handling of miners and criticizes party rhetoric on third term

- Solomon Jabari scores President Mahama 98% for economic performance
- He criticizes the NDC for neglecting miners, calling for better support, reduced pressure from NAIMOS
- Jabari does not support a third term for Mahama but urges the party to engage in respectful debate
The Chairman of the NDC Island–City Branch in Kumasi, Mr. Solomon Jabari, has praised President John Mahama’s economic performance, scoring him 98% for his governance, while pointing out that the party has fallen short in supporting proper miners, which accounts for the remaining 2%.
Speaking in an interview on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show with Kwame Tanko, Mr. Jabari acknowledged the government’s achievements in stabilizing the Ghanaian cedi, highlighting that the local currency now holds value against the US dollar.
“Now we share cedis because the cedi has value against dollars. Interest rates have reduced, and the government has done well in the economy. For that, I will score President Mahama 98%,” he stated.
While commending the government’s economic achievements, Mr. Jabari expressed concern that the NDC has not adequately addressed miners’ needs, which he said represents a critical shortfall in the party’s governance.
“The 2% I did not score comes from the NDC not dealing well with miners. If NAIMOS alone is distracting the miners, then the Minerals Commission should be part of the NAIMOS team,” he added, referring to the National Minerals Marketing Company’s role in regulating the mining sector.
Mr. Jabari also noted that most miners are financially capable and could participate in infrastructure projects, such as road construction, as part of a mutually beneficial arrangement.
He commended NAIMOS for some of the good work done but urged the agency to ease the pressure on miners.
No Support for Third Term, Criticism of Party Rhetoric
On the controversial topic of a potential third term for President Mahama, Mr. Jabari clarified that he does not support a third term. However, he criticized the NDC General Secretary Fifi Kwetey’s characterization of party members as “sycophants and bootlickers” as being too harsh toward those advocating for a third term.
“I do not root for a third term, but the words used by Fifi Kwetey were too harsh. We must engage in healthy debate within the party without labeling our members negatively,” he said.
