President John Dramani Mahama has strongly condemned recent assaults on teachers, warning that acts of violence against educators are criminal and must be met with accountability.

Addressing the Delegates Conference of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the President expressed deep concern over the handling of a widely publicised incident involving the assault of a teacher by students of Kade Senior High School.

The October 2025 incident, which circulated on social media, allegedly showed students attacking a mathematics teacher after he refused to allow examination malpractice. Reports later emerged that the matter was resolved out of court, following a police complaint, after parents of the students reached an amicable settlement with the teacher.

President Mahama described the outcome as deeply troubling, insisting that the absence of formal disciplinary action undermines justice.

“I saw the video of the Maths teacher being beaten simply because he refused to allow students to cheat. The sense of entitlement was shocking,” he said.

He questioned why the students were not subjected to disciplinary or legal procedures, even after the case was reported to the police.

“This is assault. It is criminal. Even if compensation was paid, the students should have been taken through the legal process and bonded to be of good behaviour,” Mahama stressed.

Reaffirming his support for teachers, the President assured GNAT that his administration would deal firmly with assaults on educators, adding: “On the issue of attacks on teachers, I am with you 100 per cent.”
