WAEC Releases 2026 BECE Results; 2,722 Candidates Under Investigation for Exam Malpractice

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of 620,243 candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), while launching investigations into suspected examination malpractice involving 2,722 candidates from 229 schools across the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, WAEC announced that the results had been sent to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education for distribution to schools. Candidates can also access their results online via the Council’s official portal at www.waecgh.org.
According to the Council, the examination was written by 620,243 candidates from 20,789 schools at 2,237 examination centres nationwide. The figure comprised 304,415 males and 315,828 females.
WAEC noted that the candidates included 136 visually impaired students, 282 candidates with hearing assessment needs, and 510 others who received special examination accommodations. A total of 3,601 registered candidates were absent.
Results Cancelled and Withheld
Following investigations into examination irregularities, WAEC’s Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee approved a series of sanctions during its meeting on July 21, 2026.
The Council cancelled the subject results of 496 candidates and the entire results of 105 candidates. It also withheld the subject results of 119 candidates and the entire results of 48 candidates pending further review.
Additionally, WAEC withheld the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools over suspected examination malpractice. The Council indicated that the affected results would either be released or cancelled after investigations are concluded, with a final decision expected by August 31, 2026.
Candidates whose results have been withheld or cancelled have been advised to visit https://irreg.waecgh.org to check the reasons and receive further guidance, while heads of schools may use their official portals to access the same information.
WAEC Warns Against Fraudsters
WAEC also cautioned candidates and the general public against individuals claiming they can upgrade examination results for a fee, stressing that its results are secure and can only be authenticated through official channels.
The Council expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, security agencies, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and school authorities for their support in ensuring the successful conduct of the 2026 BECE.
