Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo says the Black Stars have the quality and belief to compete with—and defeat—any team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking in an interview with FIFA, the Manchester City striker emphasized his confidence in Ghana’s ability to perform on the biggest stage, insisting his mindset remains focused on winning against all opposition.
“It will just feel normal. I don’t think I’ll feel anything. I think if anything, I’ll just want to win and prove that we can compete with the top nations,” he said.
Semenyo added that facing elite opponents would be an opportunity to prove Ghana’s strength in world football.
“I don’t think it changes anything for me, but I know that playing against my friends, I want to prove my point. I want to show that we are a top nation, we can play together, and we can beat all the top teams,” he added.
Ghana, four-time African champions, will make their fifth World Cup appearance when the tournament kicks off in North America this summer. The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
Their group-stage campaign begins on June 17 against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto, followed by a clash with England on June 23 at the Boston Stadium. They will conclude their group matches against Croatia on June 27 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
After back-to-back group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022, Ghana will be aiming to advance beyond the first round and make a deeper run in the tournament.
