Liverpool have moved into the final stages of negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen as they push to sign German international Florian Wirtz.
The Premier League champions have reportedly submitted a second, improved offer for the 22-year-old attacking midfielder, believed to be worth around £109 million, including performance-related add-ons.
Wirtz is one of Liverpool’s top transfer priorities this summer and has expressed a strong desire to join the club ahead of the 2025–26 season.
Both Manchester City and Bayern Munich were previously interested in signing Wirtz, but City withdrew due to the high financial demands, while Bayern have been sidelined by the player’s preference to move to Merseyside. This has put Liverpool, now managed by Arne Slot, in pole position to secure the deal.
Wirtz made his senior debut for Leverkusen at just 17 and has since become a key figure for the club, scoring 57 goals in 197 appearances. He played a crucial role in their historic Bundesliga title win in 2024. On the international stage, he has earned 29 caps for Germany, netting six goals.
In a further sign of their intent to strengthen the squad, Liverpool are also prepared to activate the release clause of Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong.
