The Ghana Police Service in the Central Region has arrested two men in Agona Swedru after intercepting 209 compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be narcotics, and reportedly rejecting a GH₵100,000 bribe attempt.

The suspects, 28-year-old Godfred Acquah and 34-year-old Awudu Usman, were first apprehended around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, along the Agona Asafo–Kwesitwukwaa road.

Police recovered 154 slabs of the suspected substance from a taxi cab with registration number GR 2932-26 in which the men were travelling. The slabs were hidden in four nylon sacks.

A follow-up search at Usman’s residence in Asisim, a suburb of Agona Swedru, yielded an additional 55 slabs, bringing the total seizure to 209. Authorities say Usman claimed ownership of the items found in his home.

According to the Central Regional Police Command, the suspects allegedly offered GH₵100,000 to the arresting officers in an attempt to avoid prosecution, but the bribe was rejected.

The two men are expected to be arraigned in court to face charges relating to narcotics possession and attempted bribery.
