The Nkwanta District Police Command has launched full-scale investigations into the killing of a 36-year-old man, Thomas Adon, who was shot dead at Keri in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.

According to a statement issued on Monday, June 8, the incident occurred earlier that day after reports of a violent attack involving an unidentified gunman in the community.

A joint Police-Military Taskforce was quickly deployed to the scene to assess the situation and restore calm.

Upon arrival, officers found the lifeless body of the deceased lying in a pool of blood with multiple suspected gunshot wounds, confirming a fatal shooting.

A preliminary search of the scene led to the retrieval of key items believed to be relevant to the investigation, including a piece of wood, 15 spent cartridges, and five live BB and AA cartridges. The items have since been secured for forensic and ballistic analysis.

The body has been deposited at the St. Joseph’s Hospital Mortuary in Nkwanta, where it is being preserved for autopsy.

Security officials say investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.

The joint security team, made up of police and military personnel, has also engaged traditional leaders and family members of the deceased to brief them on developments and assure them of a thorough investigation.

Authorities have extended condolences to the bereaved family and urged residents of Keri and surrounding communities to remain calm as investigations continue.

They also cautioned against any acts of reprisal or vigilantism, warning that such actions could escalate tensions and disturb peace in the area.

The security agencies reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring justice and appealed to the public to provide credible information to assist in the investigation.
