Suspend Military Recruitment Nationwide for Safety Reforms – Minority Demands
Opposition MPs call for full halt to enlistment after El-Wak tragedy that claimed six lives.

- Minority demands nationwide suspension of GAF recruitment
- Six killed, dozens injured in El-Wak Stadium stampede
- Calls for full probe, safety reforms, and compensation for victims
The Minority in Parliament has urged the government to immediately suspend the ongoing military recruitment exercise nationwide, citing the need for a full review and reform of the process to ensure public safety, fairness, and accountability.
The call follows the deadly stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, where six people died and dozens were injured as thousands of applicants crowded the venue for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) enlistment exercise.
Members of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, led by Ranking Member Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, visited victims receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.
Speaking to the press, Rev. Fordjour urged that all recruitment activities across the country be suspended until a proper probe and reform of the system are completed.
“We are appealing that, in the best interest of safeguarding the lives of potential recruits, all nationwide recruitment exercises should be halted. This will allow for a thorough investigation, review, and the introduction of better measures before resuming the process,” he said.
He also appealed to the government to provide adequate compensation to the bereaved families and victims of the incident.
“We expect adequate compensation for the young, brave potential soldiers who lost their lives and their families. For those injured, once they recover and meet GAF medical requirements, they should be prioritised—and their relatives considered where necessary,” he added.
The Minority’s call aligns with growing public pressure for accountability and structural reforms in the conduct of national recruitment exercises.
