Amasaman Circuit Court has sentenced a 23-year-old commercial motorbike rider, popularly known as an “Okada man,” to eight years imprisonment with hard labour for robbery.

The convict, identified as Issah Sadat, was found guilty of conspiring with two others—one of whom has died and another who is currently on the run—to rob a victim of a mobile phone.

The case was presided over by Her Honour Ms Susanna Nyakotey, who delivered the sentence after hearing the facts of the case and considering the convict’s background.

According to the prosecution, Sadat and his accomplices attacked a victim, Burhanudeen Suleiman, and stole his G-Mobile phone during an incident on April 19, 2026, at Oduman near Amasaman.

The court heard that the attack occurred at dawn while the victim and a witness were returning home from a construction site.

The robbers, who were riding a motorbike, reportedly used a knife during the operation before being confronted by community members.

With the help of residents, Sadat and one accomplice were arrested at the scene, while another suspect managed to escape.

Police later retrieved the stolen phone and a knife believed to have been used in the robbery from the scene.

One of the suspects was later pronounced dead after being sent to hospital, while Sadat survived treatment and was subsequently charged.

The prosecution told the court that investigations linked the accused to the robbery and confirmed the use of a motorbike, which was also seized as an exhibit.

During sentencing, Sadat pleaded for leniency, telling the court he was married with children and had no formal education.

The court, however, noted his age and the circumstances of the case before handing down the eight-year custodial sentence.

Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspect who is still at large.
