  • Blames the NDC for worsening hardship and rising cost of living
  • Predicts the NDC will lose the 2028 general election

Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman hopeful, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as Asanteman COKA has declared that officials of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be held accountable for every pesewa of public funds spent if the NPP regains power in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking in an interview with Kwame Tanko on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show on Monday, July 13, 2026, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah accused the Mahama-led administration of plunging the country into severe economic hardship, insisting Ghanaians are enduring worsening living conditions.

According to him, the rising cost of living has left many families struggling to make ends meet.

“The country is deteriorating under the NDC. Everything has become expensive, and there is severe hardship,” he stated.

He claimed the economic challenges have become evident in his own community, revealing that the number of people who visit his home seeking financial assistance has increased significantly.

“I remember when we were in government, about five people would come to my house for financial help. Today, that number has risen to about 25 because of the hardship,” he said.

Odeneho Kwaku Appiah also alleged that key social intervention programmes introduced by the previous NPP administration are declining under the current government.

He argued that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is collapsing and claimed that the quality of meals served under the School Feeding Programme has deteriorated compared to what was available during former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.

Reacting to recent comments by Minister for Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku on the government’s “Nkoko Nketenkete” poultry initiative, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah expressed disappointment.

The minister had indicated that some beneficiaries of the programme record videos of themselves eating the poultry and send them to him. Odeneho said he was saddened by the remarks, describing them as inappropriate.

He further warned that an NPP government in 2028 would scrutinise the expenditure of the current administration, just as some former NPP officials are currently facing investigations.

“A day is coming, and that day will be a judgement day. Everywhere public money has passed, those responsible will account for it, just as some of our members are being arrested today,” he said.

Expressing confidence in his party’s electoral prospects, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah predicted that the NDC would lose power in the next general election regardless of how long it remains in office.

“No matter how long they stay in office, they are going to lose the 2028 election,” he asserted.
