World Gold Council and GoldBod Team Up to Boost Responsible ASM in Ghana

- World Gold Council meets GoldBod to advance formalisation of artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM).
- Focus on improving traceability, transparency, and responsible sourcing in Ghana’s gold sector.
- Plans discussed for sustainable processing plants to add local value to ASM gold production.
The World Gold Council, under the leadership of CEO David Tait, recently held a high-level strategic meeting in Accra with Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), and members of GoldBod’s Governing Council.
The discussions centred on advancing the formalisation of Ghana’s artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector, with a strong focus on strengthening traceability systems along the gold value chain to meet international standards and best practices.

Both organisations also explored ways to deepen collaboration, aiming to boost transparency, responsible sourcing, and sustainability within the nation’s gold industry.
The meeting further considered potential strategic partnerships to establish environmentally sustainable and commercially viable processing plants in Ghana, supporting ASM gold production.

This initiative is expected to add local value while promoting responsible mining practices.
