Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the Ashanti Region have stepped up public fire safety education campaigns in selected communities and markets within the Afigya Kwabre North District and the Kumasi metropolis to help reduce fire outbreaks and improve emergency preparedness.
The exercise formed part of a broader district clean-up campaign held on Tuesday, May 19, led by the Boamang District Fire Command in collaboration with the District Chief Executive and the management of the Afigya Kwabre North District Assembly.

As part of the campaign, fire officers visited communities including Penteng, Pampatia, and Patasi, where residents were educated on fire prevention measures, emergency reporting procedures, and the role of the Fire Service during emergencies.
According to the Service, the outreach aimed to strengthen public awareness on fire safety and encourage prompt reporting during emergencies.
In a separate exercise, officers from the KNUST Fire Station carried out a fire safety sensitisation programme at the Anloga Market in Kumasi. Traders, food vendors, and market leaders received training on the safe handling of LPG cylinders, proper use of electrical appliances, and maintaining clean and safe trading environments.
The officers also warned against common fire risks in markets, including illegal electrical connections, unattended cooking activities, and blocked exit routes that could hinder evacuation during emergencies.
Traders were further reminded to use emergency numbers 192, 112, and the Ashanti Regional emergency line to report fire incidents promptly.
