Sports Minister Kofi Adams has urged newly appointed Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz to unlock the full potential of Ghana’s national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz, who replaced Otto Addo in April, has been tasked with improving the team’s performances following a disappointing run of results despite the strong form of several Ghanaian players at club level.

The Black Stars are currently on a four-match losing streak, raising concerns about the team’s consistency and ability to compete at the highest level.
Speaking to SoccerChat, Adams questioned why some key players excel for their clubs but struggle to produce similar performances for the national team.
He pointed to forwards Antoine Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus as examples of players who have shown quality in Europe but have not consistently delivered for Ghana.
“Why would we have Antoine Semenyo in our team, and when he goes to his club side he performs very well, but when he comes to the national team, he’s not able to play effectively?” Adams asked.
He added that Kudus, despite his impressive club performances, has also struggled at times to replicate the same flair with the Black Stars.
According to the Sports Minister, the responsibility now lies with Queiroz to build a system that helps the team’s top talents perform collectively and produce results.
Kudus scored nine goals in all competitions for Tottenham Hotspur before suffering an injury that has sidelined him since January, while Semenyo has enjoyed an outstanding season with 20 goals and six assists.
Queiroz has already indicated that national team selections will be based strictly on merit and is expected to announce Ghana’s final World Cup squad by June 1.
As part of preparations for the tournament, Ghana will play friendly matches against Mexico national football team and Wales national football team later this month.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England national football team, Croatia national football team and Panama national football team as they aim to reach the World Cup knockout stages for the first time since 2010.
