Driver convicted after lane change leads to multi-vehicle crash and passenger injury.
- Driver fined 50 penalty units (GH¢600) after pleading guilty.
- Improper lane change triggered collision with truck and trailer.
- Both driver and passenger injured; medical bills later settled.
The Adabraka District Court has fined a driver GH¢600 for careless and inconsiderate driving that caused injury to his passenger.
Evans Amankwa pleaded guilty to the charge after his actions led to harm to Edmund Wisdom Azumah Kwaku. The court imposed a fine of 50 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢600.
Prosecutor Inspector Irene Sackey told the court that on February 2, 2026, at about 10:07 p.m., Amankwa was driving a Daewoo Matiz saloon car (registration number GW 920-20) from Lapaz towards Kasoa. Upon reaching the McCarthy Hill traffic light, he allegedly failed to exercise due care when moving from the service lane onto the highway, veering into the middle lane.
An articulated truck travelling from the Odorkor direction subsequently crashed into the rear of his vehicle. The force of the collision pushed the car into the opposite lane, where it struck a trailer approaching from the Kasoa direction.
Amankwa and his passenger sustained injuries and were taken to the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Hospital for treatment.
Following investigations, Amankwa was charged and brought before the court. Inspector Sackey noted that he has since settled the medical expenses of the injured passenger.
