Tension is rising in the Hemang community in the Afigya Kwabre South District of the Ashanti Region as angry youth reportedly launch a manhunt for a 34-year-old man accused of engaging in unlawful sexual activities with teenage boys.
According to residents, the suspect was initially arrested and handed over to the Ghana Police Service at the Kodie District Police Command for investigation and possible prosecution.

However, unrest has erupted after the suspect was allegedly granted police bail and returned to the community, a development that has angered some residents who say his presence is causing fear and tension.
Community members claim they can no longer tolerate his presence and have vowed to drive him out of the area.
Speaking to the media, a Unit Committee member identified as Seth said the community strongly opposes the alleged conduct, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to their cultural values.

“We understand the police have the legal right to grant bail, but the people in this community do not feel comfortable living with him here. That is why some residents are searching for him to drive him out of the community,” he stated.
Seth also noted that the absence of a substantive chief or traditional council has made it difficult to manage the situation through formal community leadership structures.
The suspect was reportedly first apprehended on Monday, May 11, 2026, after allegations emerged linking him to an inappropriate relationship with a teenager over several months.

Meanwhile, residents are appealing to the police to speed up investigations to prevent possible violence or mob action.
The police are yet to officially comment on the incident.
