Newly appointed Carlos Queiroz has described his role as head coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, as the biggest challenge of his career, while insisting he is fully prepared for the task ahead.

The 73-year-old has signed a short-term four-month contract to lead the Ghana national football team through the upcoming FIFA World Cup, replacing Otto Addo after a difficult run of results that included four consecutive defeats.

Speaking at his official unveiling, Queiroz said taking charge of Ghana represents a major milestone in his long coaching career, which has included spells with eight different national teams.

“It is an honour and a privilege to be here,” he said. “This is the soul of the Black Stars, and the expectations are very high. After working with eight national teams, this is the biggest challenge of my life, and I am ready for it.”

He added that he intends to bring decades of experience to help stabilise the team ahead of the tournament, which kicks off in less than 50 days.

Ghana has been drawn in Group L at the World Cup, where they will face England national football team, Croatia national football team, and Panama national football team.

The Black Stars are aiming to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since their historic quarter-final run in 2010.
