Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has officially ended his tenure with Ghana following the team’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, urging authorities to prioritise structural reforms to ensure the long-term success of Ghanaian football.

In a heartfelt farewell message after Ghana’s Round of 32 defeat to Colombia, the Portuguese tactician reflected on his time in charge, expressing pride in the team’s achievements while insisting there is still room for greater progress.

“I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted more. Reaching a higher level should never be the destination; it should be the beginning of even greater ambitions,” Queiroz stated.

Looking beyond the World Cup, the experienced coach stressed that the future of the Black Stars depends not only on performances on the pitch but also on creating a strong football ecosystem that nurtures talent and promotes sustainable success.

“The future of the Black Stars will not be built only on the pitch. Success must start off the field by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana’s extraordinary football talent,” he said.

Queiroz described Ghana’s World Cup campaign as an important learning experience, encouraging the nation to embrace the lessons from the tournament as a foundation for future improvement.

“Football, like life, teaches us one timeless lesson: you either win or you learn.”

The outgoing coach also expressed gratitude to the Ghana Football Association for giving him the opportunity to lead the national team.

“To my President and Board, thank you for the opportunity to serve the Ghana National Football Team. It was an honour and privilege.”

He further paid tribute to his players and members of the technical team for their unwavering commitment throughout the World Cup campaign.

“To my players and staff, my deepest gratitude for your courage, commitment and dedication.”

Addressing Ghanaians, Queiroz acknowledged the disappointment surrounding the Black Stars’ exit but maintained that the team had restored its credibility on the global stage.

“To the fans, we cannot claim complete sporting satisfaction, but we can proudly say that we honoured the colours of Ghana and restored respect and credibility to the Black Stars on football’s greatest stage.”

Queiroz concluded his message by encouraging Ghana to continue building on the progress made, insisting that sustained success will only come through proper planning, investment and a shared commitment to developing the country’s immense football talent.
