E/R: Woman Arrested for Burying Her Daughter’s Newborn Baby After She Failed to Get a Husband at Koforidua

A woman in her 50s is in the custody of the Eastern Regional Police Command for allegedly burying her newborn granddaughter alive shortly after birth at Akroso Koforidua, near Asamankese in the Eastern Region.
According to sources, the woman, identified as Akua Abrokwaa, allegedly claimed that her daughter became pregnant by an unknown man and that she could not care for the baby because the child had no known father.
Police reportedly arrested the woman on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after she allegedly admitted taking the newborn to a nearby cocoa farm, where she buried the baby alive.
The Eastern Regional Police Command has taken the suspect into custody to assist with investigations.
The remains of the baby have also been conveyed to the morgue for preservation as investigations continue.
