In a significant victory for the Ejura community, the Government of Ghana has officially returned 15,000 acres of ancestral farmland.

The land, long claimed by the community, had been subject to various legal and administrative hurdles.

The symbolic handover ceremony, held in Ejura, was a momentous occasion attended by government officials, traditional leaders, and community members.

The event marked the culmination of years of advocacy and perseverance by the Ejurahene, Nana Barima Osei Hwedie II, and his people.

A Collaborative Effort

The process of reclaiming the land was spearheaded by the State Interests Governance Authority (SIGA), led by Director-General John Boadu. In collaboration with the Minister of Public Enterprises, Joseph Cudjoe, Boadu successfully lobbied the government to delist the land from a list of state assets earmarked for sale.

“I received a petition from Nana Ejurahene, and together with the Minister, we worked tirelessly to address this issue,” Boadu explained. “We engaged with President Akufo-Addo to highlight the historical significance of this land and the rightful claims of the Ejura community.”

A Triumph for the Community

The return of the land is expected to have a profound impact on the Ejura community. It will bolster agricultural activities, create employment opportunities, and contribute to the overall economic development of the region.

Nana Barima Osei Hwedie II expressed his deep gratitude to the government for honoring the community’s ancestral rights.

He emphasized that the reclaimed land would be used for sustainable agricultural practices and other developmental projects.

A Call for Continued Support

To ensure the long-term benefits of the land return, the Ejurahene urged the community to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to the well-being of the community and its ongoing efforts to address their needs.

As the Ejura community celebrates this historic milestone, it serves as a reminder of the government’s dedication to social justice, land rights, and the empowerment of local communities.
