New Global InfoAnalytics poll also shows growing support for Dr Cassiel Ato Forson as the NDC's potential 2028 presidential candidate.

Story Highlights
  • 61% back Asiedu Nketia
  • 58% support Ato Forson
  • 5,637 delegates surveyed

A majority of delegates of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) want Johnson Asiedu Nketia to continue serving as the party’s National Chairman, according to a new Global InfoAnalytics tracking poll.

The survey comes amid increasing debate over the NDC’s future leadership ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The latest Global InfoAnalytics NDC Delegates Tracking Poll found that 61% of delegates support calls for Asiedu Nketia to remain chairman, while 26% oppose the idea and 13% expressed no opinion.

The poll marks a significant rise in support compared to April 2026, when 42% of delegates backed his continued leadership and 39% were against it.

The survey also measured delegates’ views on calls for Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson to lead the NDC into the 2028 presidential election against the New Patriotic Party’s expected candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, with both widely recognised as economists.

According to the findings, 58% of delegates support Dr Ato Forson becoming the NDC’s 2028 presidential candidate, while 23% oppose the proposal and 19% remain undecided.

Interestingly, the poll shows that support for Dr Ato Forson extends beyond his own political base. Among delegates who currently favour Asiedu Nketia for the party’s flagbearership, 25% also believe Dr Ato Forson should be the NDC’s presidential candidate in 2028.

The findings suggest that while Asiedu Nketia commands strong backing to continue leading the party organisationally, the race to succeed President John Dramani Mahama as the NDC’s next presidential candidate remains open and highly competitive.

Global InfoAnalytics conducted the poll between July 8 and July 14, 2026, interviewing 5,637 NDC delegates across all 16 regions using Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI). The survey has a 99% confidence level and a margin of error of ±1.7%.
