The Ministry of Food and Agriculture says it will expand the Feed Ghana Brigade programme following growing interest from private agribusinesses seeking to engage the services of newly trained members.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, during the passing-out ceremony of 506 Feed Ghana Brigadiers at the National Police Training School.

According to the Minister, some agribusiness companies have already contacted the Ministry to request trained brigadiers even before their official deployment, signalling strong private sector confidence in the initiative.

He revealed that one company has requested 20 brigadiers, while another has requested two, describing the demand as evidence of the need for skilled agricultural professionals to support commercial farming and agribusiness operations.

Mr. Opoku said the Ministry will continue recruiting and training more brigadiers to meet the increasing demand and support the implementation of the government’s Feed Ghana Programme.

The trained personnel will provide agricultural advisory and technical support to agribusinesses, households, schools, public institutions, and faith-based organisations. They will also promote household food production, nutrition improvement, and environmental sustainability as master gardeners.

The Minister explained that the 506 graduates represent only the first phase of the programme, with plans to recruit more graduates from Colleges of Agriculture and other recognised tertiary institutions.

He added that expanding the brigade will strengthen agricultural extension services, create jobs for young agricultural professionals, and improve collaboration between government and the private sector.

The Feed Ghana Brigade is part of government’s broader efforts to modernise agriculture, increase food production, strengthen agribusiness value chains, and create sustainable employment opportunities for Ghana’s youth.
