President John Dramani Mahama has encouraged Ghanaians to remain grateful to God despite the recent floods that claimed lives, displaced thousands of people, and caused widespread destruction in parts of the country.

Speaking at the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, the President acknowledged the pain experienced by affected families but urged citizens to hold on to their faith during difficult times. He said the occasion served as a reminder that Ghanaians are united beyond political, ethnic, and religious differences.

Reflecting on the disaster, President Mahama said the nation continues to mourn those who lost their lives and sympathise with families who suffered losses. He cited 1 Thessalonians 5:18, urging Ghanaians to give thanks in all circumstances, and also quoted Psalm 100:4 as a call to approach God with thanksgiving and praise.

The President described this year’s theme, “Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Want,” as timely, saying it highlights the need for national unity, renewed values, and collective responsibility as the country recovers from recent challenges.

His remarks come after heavy rainfall on June 29, 2026, triggered severe flooding in parts of Greater Accra and other areas, leaving several people dead, displacing thousands of residents, and causing significant damage to homes and infrastructure.
