The Accra High Court has granted bail to social media blogger and Shatta Movement supporter Abdul Gafaru Sani, popularly known as Webkid or WebkidAfrika, after more than six weeks in detention.

The court set bail at GH¢100,000 during proceedings on June 22, 2026.

Webkid, a Tema-based salesman and blogger, was arrested on May 7, 2026, and subsequently charged over allegations of publishing false information and engaging in offensive conduct on social media directed at award-winning dancehall artiste Stonebwoy and members of his family.

According to court documents, Webkid faces charges under Section 76 of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), relating to the publication of false news, as well as offensive conduct conducive to a breach of peace under Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

His legal team disclosed that Stonebwoy, known privately as Livingstone Etse Satekla, is listed as the complainant in the case. The revelation comes after earlier assertions from the musician’s camp that law enforcement authorities had acted independently.

The prosecution alleges that on or around November 11, 2024, Webkid used his X account to publish content considered false and capable of causing fear, panic, or harm to Stonebwoy and his family.

Investigators further claim the matter originated in August 2025 after several videos reportedly disappeared from Stonebwoy’s YouTube channel. Internal inquiries allegedly pointed to a former social media administrator, Casey Kobia, prompting a formal complaint to the Criminal Investigations Department, which later referred the case to the Cybercrime Unit.

Prosecutors contend that investigations uncovered an alleged scheme involving several bloggers, including Webkid, who were purportedly recruited to publish images of Stonebwoy, his wife, and children alongside derogatory captions on social media.

According to the prosecution, the coordinated posts created tension and amounted to conduct likely to disturb public peace.

The original charge sheet against Webkid was later withdrawn and replaced with a revised one containing two additional counts, increasing the total number of charges to six.

Bail applications had previously been rejected on at least two occasions. During a hearing on June 18, 2026, proceedings were adjourned due to the absence of the presiding judge before the court eventually granted bail on June 22.

Following Webkid’s arrest, dancehall musician Shatta Wale publicly voiced support for him during a TikTok Live session, arguing that criticism of public figures is part of the entertainment industry and defending the blogger’s actions.

The case remains before the court as legal proceedings continue.
