The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially renamed its national headquarters in Adabraka, Accra, as the Jerry Rawlings House in honour of the party’s founder, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings.
The renaming ceremony was held on Monday, June 22, 2026, coinciding with what would have been the late former president’s 79th birthday.

The event marked another milestone in efforts by the party to preserve the legacy and ideals of Rawlings, who founded the NDC in 1992 and led it through the early years of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
President John Dramani Mahama joined members of the party’s National Executive Committee, senior party figures, diplomats, and supporters to officially unveil a commemorative bust of the late statesman at the forecourt of the headquarters.
The ceremony was organised in collaboration with the J.J. Rawlings Foundation, which was established by the Rawlings family to promote and preserve his contributions to Ghana’s political and social development.
According to party officials, the decision to rename the headquarters is aimed at immortalising Rawlings’ legacy while reinforcing the NDC’s core values of probity, accountability, and social justice.
The move is also expected to strengthen the party’s ideological identity and remind members of the principles upon which the NDC was founded.
Rawlings, who served as Ghana’s first president under the Fourth Republic, remains one of the most influential figures in the country’s political history. His death in November 2020 was widely mourned across Ghana and beyond.
Party leaders believe the renaming of the headquarters into a lasting monument will help keep his vision and ideals alive for future generations.
The ceremony attracted hundreds of party supporters clad in NDC colours, alongside representatives of allied groups and invited guests, who gathered to witness the official unveiling of the Jerry Rawlings House.
