The 2024 vice-presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Minister for Education and Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has donated a variety of medical equipment and recreational items to the Children’s Ward of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
The donation included glucometers, thermometers, oxygen cylinders, pulse oximeters, nebulizers, children’s tablets, coloring books, and toy cars. The items were distributed to the B3, B4, B5, and C5 wards to support healthcare delivery and improve the well-being of young patients.

During the visit, Dr. Opoku Prempeh spent time interacting with healthcare personnel on duty as well as parents whose children were receiving treatment at the facility.
Speaking during the presentation, Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasized the importance of charity and encouraged individuals to give back to society regardless of their social or economic status.
According to him, philanthropy should not be reserved for the wealthy, as every act of kindness, no matter how small, can positively impact lives and bring immense blessings.
He noted that giving to those in need has become a personal tradition, particularly during the celebration of his birthday each year.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh also revealed that he previously worked at the B3 Children’s Ward, which gave him firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by both patients and healthcare professionals.

He explained that while the needs of the children are important, nurses and other medical staff also require adequate equipment to perform their duties effectively, hence the donation.

Receiving the items on behalf of the ward, the nursing staff expressed their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Opoku Prempeh for his generosity and continued support, describing the gesture as timely and beneficial to both patients and healthcare workers.
