The Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Madam Patricia Appiagyei, has raised concerns over the organisation of the 24th African Senior Athletics Championship hosted by Ghana in Accra.

She made the remarks in Parliament today while reading a welcome address on behalf of the Minority Leader, Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

Madam Appiagyei noted that although Ghana secured the hosting rights for the continental championship well in advance, the execution of the event did not meet expected standards.

She highlighted reported challenges faced by athletes and officials during the competition, particularly in relation to accommodation and feeding arrangements.

According to her, these shortcomings created avoidable embarrassment for the country despite its efforts to host a major international sporting event.

The Asokwa MP stressed the need for stronger planning and coordination in future sporting engagements to ensure Ghana delivers successful international tournaments.

She added that lessons must be learned from the experience to improve the country’s preparedness and safeguard its reputation on the global stage.
