Aggrieved members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency of the Western Region have staged a protest against what they describe as the imposition of party executives and growing favoritism within the constituency.
The demonstrators, made up of youth groups, former executives, founding members, and some current constituency officers, accused unnamed individuals of hijacking internal party processes to serve personal interests rather than upholding democratic principles.

Speaking during the protest, convener Nana Sulley said he has been a member of the party since 1992 and has served in various constituency roles over the years. He claimed that tensions in the constituency escalated when Hon. George Mireku Duker showed interest in contesting the parliamentary seat.
According to him, internal elections were allegedly bypassed and some executives were instead selected rather than elected, a development he described as inconsistent with the party’s democratic traditions.
The spokesperson for the group, Amporful Adu Nakaa, said repeated petitions to both constituency and regional leadership had gone unanswered, leaving members with no option but to demonstrate publicly. He added that the group has lost confidence in the current leadership’s ability to address their concerns.
A founding member, known as Auntie Hannah, also expressed disappointment, saying the situation had undermined the unity and sacrifices that built the party in the constituency. She called on the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP to intervene and restore fairness and internal democracy.
The aggrieved members are now urging the party’s national leadership to step in urgently and ensure the reorganization of polling station and constituency-level elections to resolve the ongoing tensions.
