Police Intercept Truck in Nkwanta, Arrest Two with Gun and Over 11,000 Rounds of Ammunition

The Ghana Police Service has arrested two men in the Nkwanta Municipality for unlawful possession of a firearm and a massive cache of ammunition during an intelligence-led operation.

The suspects, identified as Richard Kpimbi, 27, and Latif Adam, 20, were apprehended at the Brewaniase Police barrier on April 29, 2026.

According to police, the two were travelling in a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GW 9927-13 when officers intercepted the vehicle and conducted a thorough search.

The operation uncovered one Adler pump-action gun, 7,000 AAA cartridges, 3,000 BB cartridges, and 1,124 rounds of AK-47 ammunition hidden in sacks and boxes covered with tarpaulins.

Police said the suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations, while the firearm and ammunition have been secured as exhibits.

Authorities noted that the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to crack down on the illegal circulation of arms and ammunition across the country.

The Police Service has also urged the public to provide credible information to support law enforcement in fighting crime and maintaining public safety.
