Family alleges negligence at Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital after a pregnant woman, Opoku Abigail, reportedly died following delays in performing an emergency caesarean section

- Opoku Abigail reportedly died after alleged delays in receiving an emergency caesarean section
- The family claims hospital staff refused the C-section request
- Relatives and sympathisers are calling for an urgent investigation into the incident
A pregnant woman, identified as Opoku Abigail, has reportedly died at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital after health workers allegedly failed to perform an emergency caesarean section, citing lack of space in the recovery ward.
According to the family, Abigail was first taken to a private facility but was later referred to the Kasoa-based hospital after complications during labour.
Relatives say she arrived at the facility between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., where both the patient and her family urgently requested a C-section due to her condition. However, they allege hospital staff refused, claiming the recovery ward was full.
“They told us the recovery ward was full, so they couldn’t perform the surgery. They insisted she would deliver naturally,” a relative recounted.
The family further claims that despite her worsening condition and repeated pleas for surgical intervention, Abigail was left in severe pain without adequate medical attention.
She reportedly died nearly 36 hours after being admitted, with her baby still in the womb. Disturbingly, the family also alleges she was left on the bare floor in the delivery ward during the ordeal.
The incident, which is said to have occurred on Sunday, has triggered anger and grief among relatives and sympathisers, many of whom believe the death could have been prevented with timely intervention.
A sister of the deceased, Doris Opoku, is calling for a full investigation into the hospital’s operations, insisting that her sister might have survived if the requested caesarean section had been carried out.
The Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital is yet to officially respond to the allegations.
Meanwhile, friends and members of the public have launched a social media campaign demanding accountability and a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death.
