  • Defence raises no objection to adjournment

An Accra High Court has adjourned proceedings in the case involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and seven others to May 26, 2026, pending the outcome of an appeal filed by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Senior Principal State Attorney at the OSP, Adelaide Kobiri-Woode, informed the court that the Office had initiated both an appeal and an application for a stay of execution following a recent ruling that affected its prosecutorial authority.

She explained that the appeal challenges a decision by Eugene Nyante Nyadu, which declared the OSP’s prosecutions invalid and removed its power to prosecute cases.

According to the prosecution, the application for a stay of execution is expected to be heard on May 21, 2026, and the Office requested that the current case be adjourned until that matter is resolved.

The case, which has drawn significant public interest due to Mr Ofori-Atta’s role in the previous administration, is among several high-profile matters linked to the OSP’s anti-corruption mandate.

Five of the accused persons—Emmanuel Kofi Nti, Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Isaac Crentsil, Evans Adusei, and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited—were present in court with their legal teams.

Lawyers representing the accused did not oppose the request for adjournment. Counsel for Emmanuel Kofi Nti, Ernest Hardi Silas, indicated their willingness to comply, while Kwame Gyan, representing Evans Adusei and SML, supported the adjournment but urged the court to set a later date to avoid repeated delays.

Presiding judge Francis Apanga Achibonga acknowledged the ongoing legal developments surrounding the OSP’s mandate and granted the adjournment.

The case is now scheduled to resume on May 26, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., pending the outcome of the OSP’s application.
